1. The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarships at the University of Toronto

The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarships at the University of Toronto provide an unparalleled opportunity for outstanding international students to study at one of the world’s best universities in one of the world’s most multicultural cities. The scholarship program is intended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and creativity and who are recognized as leaders within their school. A special emphasis is placed on the impact the student has had on the life of their school and community, and their future potential to contribute positively to the global community.

Awarded annually, these scholarships recognize outstanding students from around the world, including international students studying at Canadian high schools. This is U of T’s most prestigious and competitive scholarship for international students. The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarships will cover tuition, books, incidental fees, and full residence support for four years. The scholarship is tenable only at the University of Toronto for first-entry, undergraduate programs. Each year approximately 37 students will be named Lester B. Pearson Scholars.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply to the Pearson International Scholarship, you must be:

  • an international student (i.e. a non-Canadian requiring a study permit);
  • currently in your final year of secondary school or have graduated no earlier than June 2022
  • beginning your studies at the University of Toronto in September 2023 (students already attending post-secondary studies cannot be considered; students starting their studies in January 2023 at another post-secondary institution cannot be considered)

2. University of Calgary – Entrance Scholarship

The University of Calgary International Entrance Scholarship is a prestigious award that recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of international students beginning their undergraduate studies at the University in the Fall term. The criteria for the Scholarship include not only academic excellence but also accomplishments outside the classroom.

Renewable in the second, third, and fourth year at the University of Calgary, provided recipients achieve a GPA of 2.60 or more over a minimum of 24.00 units in the previous fall and winter terms and continue to pay an international differential tuition fee as an international student.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Applicants must be international students who are registered full-time in an undergraduate degree program that commences in the Fall term.
  • They have to be new students.
  • To be considered for a scholarship, a student must normally present a minimum GPA of 3.20.
  • They must also have satisfied the university’s English Language Proficiency requirement.

Scholarship Worth

  • Up to $20,000 (Renewable every year)

3. Carleton University – Prestige Scholarships

If you have been admitted to Carleton with an admissions average of 80 percent or better, you will automatically be considered for a renewable entrance scholarship at the time of admission. To be considered for an entrance scholarship, the University’s Admissions Services must receive your complete application for admission and all required grades

Carleton has a variety of scholarship options for international students. These include
– Entrance scholarships,
– prestige scholarships, and
– international awards.

The highest awards of Carleton University are the Prestige Scholarships, which comprises several other scholarships and awards such as the Chancellor’s Scholarship, the Richard Lewar Entrance Scholarship, the Carleton University Scholarship of Excellence, the Carleton University SHAD Scholarship, the Jay Woo and CAA Scholarship, the Riordon Scholarship, and the Collins Prestige Scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

  • All international students can apply
  • You will be considered for a prestige scholarship only if you are entering Carleton directly from high school or CEGEP.
  • For all prestige scholarships, you must achieve an admission average of 90 percent or better. The selection committee will also assess the range of your community or secondary school extra-curricular activities
  • Only candidates with no previous attendance at a post-secondary educational institution (college or university excluding CEGEP) will be considered.
  • Scholarships are renewable with an annual GPA of 10.0

Scholarship Worth

  • Full and Partial tuition fees up to $30,000, renewable every year

4. The University of British Colombia

The International Scholars Program brings some of the world’s brightest young undergraduates to UBC. International Scholars are high academic achievers who have demonstrated exceptional extracurricular activities, show a desire to create global change, and are dedicated to giving back to their schools and communities. Students are considered to receive a scholarship award when they enter their first year at UBC, and the scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years of study. The number and level of these scholarships awarded each year vary, depending on available funding.

As soon as you receive an offer of admission to UBC, you’ll automatically be considered for these merit-based awards. Consideration is based on your demonstrated academic achievement and your extracurricular involvement. There are several awards available, such as:
– International Major Entrance Scholarship
– Outstanding International Student Award
– Vantage One Excellence Award
– International Impact Award

You won’t select which award you wish to receive when you submit your application – our team will automatically consider you for the awards that you are eligible for. Scholarship decisions are made between mid-March to the end of April each year.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • You must be an international student who will be studying in Canada on a Canadian study permit.
  • You must be entering UBC from a recognized secondary school, or transferring from your first year at a post-secondary college or other universities.
  • You must have graduated from high school no earlier than one year prior to the academic year you are applying to. For example, applicants for 2023 must have graduated from high school no earlier than 2022.
  • You must be applying for your first undergraduate degree.
  • You must demonstrate superior academic achievement (achieve all As or equivalent standard).
  • If you apply to UBC by January 15, you will be automatically considered for the OIS Award.

Scholarship Worth

  • Up to $25,000 per year

5. York University – International Entrance Scholarship

York University, one of the prestigious universities in Canada offers Scholarships to international students who wish to pursue their undergraduate degree at the university. There are three categories of Scholarships available:
– President’s International Scholarship of Excellence
– Tentanda Via Award
– Global Leader of Tomorrow Award

Each of these scholarship programs has been designed to reward academic excellence and they are renewable every year for the duration of the undergraduate studies.

Scholarship Eligibility

To be considered for the Major International Scholarships, you must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Must be an international student who is required to have a Study Permit to study in Canada
  • Must have applied to an undergraduate degree program at York that begins in Fall 2022
  • Must have applied to York directly from high school no more than two years after graduation, and have no previous university or college studies
  • Must have an excellent academic record with a minimum “A” average or equivalent
  • Must have demonstrated leadership through community service or excellence in the arts, sports, or other areas of individual achievement

Scholarship Worth

  • President’s International Scholarship of Excellence up to $180,000
  • Tentanda Via Award up to $120,000
  • Global Leader of Tomorrow Award up to $80,000
