Gifts and abilities may open doors, but character will determine what we do once those doors are open..
As long as we are human, our character is not firm; it is not permanent. We can change our minds and behavior. We can make mistakes and learn from them. We can learn from the fruits of our right and wrong choices. Since we can change our minds—and repent of our errors—God can change us even more and create in us the will and the capacity to steadfastly choose what is right over what is wrong. “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13).
If we are to become the person God desires, as well as live an exemplary life, it’s imperative that we give careful attention to that real us, the person we are on this inside and then allow the Holy Spirit to mold us and transform us into the likeness of Christ by living our life with a deep respect for, and obedience to, God’s word, which is the path to godly character development.
God requires that we first recognize and willingly reverse our weak nature by allowing the Holy Spirit to empower us to make changes. Then we can become a new person “created in righteousness and true holiness.”
