For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
The gift of eternal life comes to those who believe in Jesus Christ, who is Himself “the resurrection and the life”. The fact that this life is “eternal” indicates that it is perpetual life—it goes on and on and on, with no end.
John puts it so simply: “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life”.

When we think of eternal life the way that Jesus and his Apostles lay it out then we are truly encouraged. Our minds and hearts are unfastened from the rusted out, sinking ship of this world and firmly applied to the soul-satisfying truth of God’s eternal word. This is the charter of the eternal kingdom!
